The Beginners Guide to Chiropractic

Let's explore what chiropractic is and what we do. Chances are, it's a little different to what you may think!  Did you know that chiropractors primarily assess and address your nervous system? That's what makes us unique to other healthcare practitioners.

Is Your Perception of Reality Correct?

How does your brain perceive what's going on in your environment, and then initiate an appropriate response to this stimuli?  Learn how your amazing nervous system works, and how chiropractic care may help to improve these functions that are imperative to living the best life possible.

Your Brain Body and Spine

Nervous system and spinal health is integral to optimal function.  But how is it all connected?  And how important is it really?

What we do at Think.

We check and adjust the spine and cranial bones to help to improve overall function! This is achieved utilising many different techniques, from very gentle 'touch and hold' contacts on babies and children, drop assist, and also manual care.

Our overall goal as chiropractors is to enhance the vital capacity of our patients.  We assess the nervous system using techniques and strategies unique to chiropractors, and this allows us to gain an overall understanding of where each person is within their spectrum of health.  We remove interference to the nervous system, known as vertebral subluxations, by administering specific adjustments to the spine that allow the body to express optimum potential.

Ok - in simple terms?  Imagine your brain as the master control room, your spinal cord as the main highway, and all of the nerves that branch out to every cell in your body as the side streets.  Stressors that we encounter every day, such as physical, chemical and emotional toxins, may build up in our nervous system and represent  traffic jams within the pathways that communicate with our brains.  So the messages that travel to and from our brains via the nerves may become altered, or slower due to interference from the traffic jam.  Working on clearing these traffic jams (vertebral subluxations) may allow our nervous system to communicate better with our brain, giving higher function overall - for instance greater mental acuity, less illness, increased energy and strength, less physical discomfort, and more appropriate responses to our environment.

These stressors affect us from birth to our golden years.  We firmly believe that if you have a spine and nervous system (so that's EVERYONE), chiropractic care will help you to achieve a greater level of AWESOME.

What is Chiropractic?

Worldwide, chiropractic is a separate and distinct healing art and profession with a new and different objective than the medical profession, namely the facilitation of natural healing from within through the elimination of vertebral subluxation. Vertebral subluxations can be a cause of neurological interference to the body’s own natural capacity for healing and health.

Every living thing has the inborn ability to direct and regulate its own internal physiology, adaptation, and healing, and thereby create its own health naturally from within. This natural principle of self-organization is the body’s innate intelligence.

In human beings, nerve messages are transmitted from the body to the brain and from the brain to the body over the nerve system. The nerve system includes the spinal cord that passes from the skull down through the spinal column, and the spinal nerves that pass from the spinal cord to the rest of the body between the individual spinal vertebrae.

A vertebral subluxation may be a malfunction within the spinal column that alters the nerve messages traveling to and from the brain over the nerve system. Vertebral subluxations can occur anywhere in the spinal column. A person’s own innate intelligence continually strives to and, through adaptation, is usually able to eliminate most vertebral subluxations that develop in his/her own spinal column.

Any person may develop a vertebral subluxation at any time in his/her life. Therefore, chiropractic care is an appropriate, health-enhancing service for all persons, whether they are “sick” or not. Rather than wait until sickness strikes, many chiropractors encourage their patients to have their spines checked periodically, as often as necessary to eliminate any subluxations that may develop during life.

Chiropractic care is not focused on the treatment of disease or on the alleviation of pain.  This is not the primary objective of chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is given with the understanding that when a person’s vertebral subluxations are reduced or corrected, his/her body will be able to heal better, and to function better and more naturally in all areas of life, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.

Natural healing, as an unobstructed expression of the body’s own innate intelligence, is the best way for the body to heal. This does not, however, imply that such healing is always necessarily faster or more comfortable for the patient. Certainly, chiropractors expect to see their patients express more vitality and heal more quickly under chiropractic care. However, they also recognise that natural healing occurs within the parameters of natural law and according to its own timetable.

We can assist your body's healing potential. Spinal malfunctions (subluxations) may produce neurological distortions (interference) that will reduce your body’s ability to function properly, maintain itself and heal itself naturally. Chiropractors adjust (correct) spinal subluxations.

Think Kohi Chiropractic are committed to enhancing your body's ability to heal itself through chiropractic care.
